The Persistence of Vision MachineThe LED Persistence of Vision Machine

I’ve wanted to build an LED Persistence of Vision machine with my Blinky Pendant for a while now, but I’ve just never had a chance to sit down and play with it. For NYE this year, I decided to try and build a spinning POV message that said “HAPPY NEW YEAR 2017” or something like that.

I totally bombed. This thing took forever to make, and it was well past midnight by the time I got it working. The Blinky Pendant was a nightmare for me to program (I used Pattern Paint to design the numbers) and there were just too many inherent problems in the system for this project to really get off the ground.

Regardless, it was a fun exercise in what Laura Kampf describes as ‘The Process is the Product’; the deeper I got into building and documenting it, the more I wanted to see this thing work.

Happy New Year! Looking forward to 2017, and making more stuff!
